Academic Writing Class: Portfolio Guidelines
Writing Portfolios are to be completed by 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 28. Final grades will be weighted as follows:
- 80% Writing portfolio
- 10% Final timed-writing
- 10% Class attendance and homework
The criteria weighting for papers in the portfolio:
- 30% content
- 20% organization
- 20% language
- 20% vocabulary
- 10% mechanics
Portfolio item weighting:
- 10% Introduction
- 30% Essay
- 10% Reading log
- 30% Timed-writing
- 20% Cover letter
Portfolio Items
- Introduction. A brief piece in which you tell your readers who you are.
- Name
- Background
- Major
- Education objective(s)
- Name
- Essay draft one. Include comments from peer group partners. Make no changes after posting this draft.
- Essay draft two. Make no changes after posting this draft.
- Essay draft three. This is the final draft.
- Reading log. Select one of the reading logs you posted to the Nicenet Conference. Edit it to identify and correct as many errors as you can.
- Timed-writing. Select one of the three timed-writings you did. Make no changes in this paper; it must be exactly what you wrote in the alloted time period.
- Cover Letter. This is a reflection piece in which you discuss your writing in this class. For descriptions and samples of cover letters, see the links below:
